Department of Planning and Zoning
The planning and zoning process helps build a stronger and more vital community. Our office handles all permits related to subdivision, building, and development, including Development Review Board appeals of administrative decisions and review of conditional use applications. Applications need adequate time for review and are subject to the scheduled found on the sidebar to the right. Planning and Zoning in Jericho strives to implement the goals of the Jericho Comprehensive Town Plan. For information about current projects, see the Projects and Studies link on the upper left.

There are seven designated Zoning Districts in Jericho: Forestry, Open Space, Rural/Agriculture Residential, Low-Density Residential, Commercial, Village, and Village Center.
Zoning violations in need of cure should be reported to this office in writing.
The Town has an online MAP VIEWER tool where basic information regarding parcels can be found, such as zoning, lot size, and on site water resources. Click this link for the map viewer.
Utility (water, gas, electric) connection permitting is handled by the Jericho Town Administrator's office.
Septic system permitting is handled by the State of Vermont Agency of Natural Resources. Jericho residents should contact the Essex Regional Office of the Wastewater Management Division (802-879-5656).
Road access permits are handled by the Jericho Road Supervisor (802-899-3180).
All new residential construction requires that a Vermont Residential Building Energy Standards (RBES) Certificate be completed and recorded with the Town Clerk. No Certificate of Occupancy will be issued without proof of recording. More information on the Residential Building Energy Code may be found HERE.
Vermont Commercial Building Energy Standards (Vermont CBES) Certificate must also be completed for all new commercial construction and recorded with the Town Clerk. No Certificate of Occupancy will be issued without proof of recording. More information on the Commercial Building Energy Code may be found HERE.

The Planning and Development Coordinator performs various tasks related to planning and economic development in the Town. The planner provides technical assistance to the Planning Commission in its review and/or revisions to the Town Plan and the "Jericho Land Use and Development Regulations"

The Zoning Administrator performs all duties relating to Zoning in the Town, including administrative decisions and enforcement. He also works in an advisory capacity to the Development Review Board (DRB).
